  • Century go three for three in County Finals

Some of you may have heard that it was a good day for the Century Teams at the Middlesex County Indoor Bowling Association Finals last Saturday.

The Club reached three finals and were successful in all three.

Please find attached details of the successes and the results from the day.

  • Century featured on NHS website

Last month the Club and our own Sean Reilly were featured in an article for the NHS London North West Healthcare Trust.

Attached here is the article and a link (below) to the actual article on the NHS website.

  • Great effort by the Adams family at Nottingham

The Jenkins brothers were child prodigies of yesteryear in Middlesex who have gone on to have glittering careers at Egham. So having to face them at Nottingham was a daunting first round task that faced Glen and Sue. And so it proved when they met, with our pair struggling to hang on to them all the way through.  A very brave effort resulted in a very respectable 19-16 defeat.

  • So near yet so far for Glen

Our club champion Glen Adams very narrowly failed in his quest to overcome his injury and secure national glory. 20-20 in the final end of his Mens Two Wood Singles semi-final he drew three inches from the jack only for his opponent, Martin Heizmann, to draw a side toucher to seal victory. Martin then duly won the final to become National Champion.

Hard lines Glen, I know that narrow defeat so close to the finish line will sting, but I hope in time you will come to appreciate as much as everyone at the club does what a huge achievement it was to get so close given the huge handicap you were carrying. We continue to be hugely proud of the way that you represent the club both on and off the green

  • Adams family on tour

Congratulations to Glen and Sue Adams on securing their place in the Family Pairs at the  National Finals. They sealed their place with an impressive win against strong Essex pairing.

They will now play at Nottingham at 9:30am on 11 April.

We continue to keep our fingers crossed for our remaining two contenders who have reached the inter-area final, the last stop on the journey to Nottingham. These are Glen Adams in the Two-Woods (Lawns 1 March 6pm), and Pat Briscoe in the Men's singles (Lawns 4 March 2pm). Good luck lads

  • Century player named in birthday honours list

Century is extremely proud to announce that Kirit Modi has been bestowed with an MBE. This is in well deserved recognition of the work that he has done in the field of organ donation since becoming an organ donor himself in 2001. He is the Hon President of the National Kidney Federation ( NKF) and the National BAME Transplant Alliance ( NBTA) and Chair of the Lister Area Kidney Patients Association ( LAKPA) and the Jain and Hindu Organ Donation Alliance ( JHOD).

  • Briscoe Marches on

The club is proud to report that Pat Briscoe has qualified for the National Final in Nottingham in the Men's Singles. Pat secured his place by defeating Lloyd Sabatini the inter-area final.

We wish Pat every success in the Finals.

  • Adams continues the limp to glory

What cruel luck our Wunderkind Glen Adams has suffered this season. Back in the groove after the disruptions of Covid and performing at his best, he looked like taking alot of stopping in his campaign for national success. Qualified in the Champion of Champions and pushing on to the business end of six other competitions, everything looked rosy.

But then disaster strikes, a work accident leads to an immensely painful knee dislocation which consigns him to a knee brace for the rest of the season.  But with immense bravery he has chosen to soldier on and salvage what he can from the season.

The Champion of Champions proved a bridge too far for him and suffered narrow defeats in the pairs, triples, fours and mixed pairs. But he masterfuly guided his team to qualify in the family pairs.

Now attention turned to the Twol Bowl Singles, where Glen faced the highly rated Lloyd Sabatini. I'm delighted to report that Glen secured an impressive 21-13 victory to book another berth at Nottingham.

Congratulation Glen, everyone at the club is very proud of you!

  • Middlesex League slips from our grasp

A late surge by our opponents, Bounds Green, led to the club suffering a narrow 3 shot defeat In the Middlesex League. Unfortunately this result coupled by our even narrower loss to Lawns means that Century will have to relinquish the Tony Garcia cup. Well done to all who played

  • Century Open 4 March

24 teams, 96 bowlers, representing 14 different clubs. All battling for the Nicholas John Winsor-Gaffney trophy and its associated cash prizes. Saturday 4th, all visitors welcome to come and watch the action

  • Century pair fall at the last hurdle

Glen Adams and Tom Smith suffered a narrow defeat in the inter-area final of the National Men's Pairs against a Riverain pairing.

Commiserations lads, but congratulations on a great campaign to reach that stage
